Drilling in St. Vincent and the Grenadines confirms potential for geothermal energy

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has suitable conditions of temperature and permeability at 2500 metres below ground to generate geothermal energy, a new report has confirmed.

Exploratory drilling in La Soufrière started two months ago, and this week’s report brings positive results from this exploration phase.

At 2500 meters, the temperature was more than 250 degrees.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves discussed the report on national radio, and explained that drilling would continue to benefit from greater permeability.
