Dominican Republic to invest USD 900m in renewable projects

Dominican Republic’s National Commission for Energy (CNE) has authorised the grant of twelve provisional concessions for new renewable energy projects totaling 874 MW.

Two projects are focused on wind energy, eight will produce electricity from solar energy and two are thermal energy projects.

Another five applications for the development of further renewable energy projects are still pending

Ángel Canó, Executive Director of the CNE affirmed that timely planning was necessary to get the most out of the potential of the Dominican Republic for the development of renewable energies. He also emphasised the importance of achieving the desired energy transition and achieving the objectives of the development strategy, observing the Sustainable Development Goals and agreements in environmental matters.
