A 125 KW solar system will be installed in the Kalinago Territory of Dominica this year. It is scheduled to go live at the end of September 2015. The $400,000 system is funded by the European Union through the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center (5cs). The project will be managed by DCH Energy GMBH of Germany and local residents will assist with the installation.
The array, which also includes a battery back-up system, will power 145 homes in the area. According to the national government, seven public facilities will also be powered by the system, including two health centers, the Kalinago Barana Auté, two resource centers, the council office and a library.
