German developer kicks off 5 MW Solar PV project in Cuba

The German company EFF solar SA has started construction on its first solar photovoltaic park in Cuba.

The project, which is expected to generate 5MW, will provide electricity for a town on the island’s western province of Mayabeque and will be operational by the end of this year, according to project managers.

The renewable energy facility is over 8.5 hectares, and was designed to withstand Category 5 hurricanes.

The financing of the project was provided by a private firm with completely foreign capital.

This renewable energy installation will help Cuba achieve its goal of generating 25% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

This installation is the first of an upcoming seven renewable energy projects that will be connected to Cuba’s national grid.
