Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Emanuel DaRosa has 29 years of experience in the electrical energy sector, working in the areas of generation, transmission and distribution.
He is presently Chief Executive Officer with SunTerra Energy where he is developing transformative solar projects for commercial customers as well as countries within the Caribbean. These will facilitate commercial customers getting as much as 90% of their energy from the sun and countries being able to achieve in excess of 50% of their energy needs coming from the exceptional solar resource that exists across the Caribbean.
Previously Vice President of EWP Barbados with responsibility to provide oversight to the Jamaica Public Service as a Board Member, Chairman of the Operations Committee and an Audit Committee member. Mr DaRosa also chairs the Management Committee of the South Jamaica Power Company. He is also responsible for business development in North and South America.
Emanuel was President & Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) from 2017 to 2020 taking them to a leading Caribbean utility position. Mr DaRosa took JPS to top quartile performance, by focussing on safety, modernization, efficiency, renewables and loss reduction, undergirded by an ethos of respect, integrity and professionalism.
Mr. DaRosa also served as the CEO of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC), for six years, where the organization became an industry leader within Canada. NTPC owns and operates 27 isolated grid systems utilizing diesel, hydro, liquefied natural gas, wind and solar in one of the world’s harshest climates.
Emanuel has led several organizations to achieve top quartile performance by adopting best in class practices and processes, ultimately achieving employee, operational and customer service excellence. Emanuel is extremely passionate about renewable and specifically solar energy and its potential within the Caribbean in the near term with worldwide potential in the longer term.
Mr. DaRosa has also served in the role of Deputy Minister in support of Ministers and the Premier of the Northwest Territories providing advice on policy issues. Creating alignment between Government, the Board of Directors and Senior Management led to effective energy policy, implementation of the energy plan, as well as substantial customer programs being successfully implemented.
With a professional engineering licence in Canada and Jamaica along with an Executive Masters in Business Administration and certifications in Balanced Scorecards; Emanuel describes himself as a lifelong learner.
Emanuel was born on the Island of Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal and migrated to Canada at the age of three with his family. He was the first in his family to complete a university education, graduating with Honours. He enjoys soccer, tennis, golf, hockey, cricket, and riding his motorcycle, when he gets the chance.
Sherry, his wife of 25 years also lives in Jamaica, while his son Daniel is enrolled in school of medicine at the University of Alberta and his daughter Deanna, is pursuing a Bachelors of Psychology at MacEwan University.
