Colombia has launched Gecelca Solar, a new division of the state-owned company Gecelca, focused on developing photovoltaic projects with an initial portfolio of 650 MW. The first project is a 200 MW solar plant on the Caribbean coast which aims to supply over 150,000 families, reduce energy costs, improve security, and support the gradual phase-out of coal-fired generation.
