The Senate of Chile has approved a new proposal to simplify regulations for shallow geothermal energy projects. This proposal aims to exempt projects using geothermal resources less than 400 meters deep and at temperatures below 90°C from the current concession system. This change recognizes the distinct nature of shallow geothermal systems, which differ significantly from large-scale geothermal power projects in terms of investment, environmental impact, and technical requirements.
