Chile rejects Mitsui and Shell’s plans for a US$650 million power plant in the Atacama desert


Chile’s government rejected plans from Mitsui and Shell to build a US$650 million power plant that would run on liquefied natural gas in the Atacama desert. Construction on the project would have started this year. However, after reviewing fifteen objections, a group of Ministers rejected the project on fears that it would threaten the local marine ecosystem.
