Chile approves US$100 million solar project with 1.3 GWh of battery storage

Chile’s Environmental Assessment Service has granted environmental approval to the Sidon Solar project, a US$100 million development spanning the Biobío and Ñuble regions. The project will combine 158.17 MWdc of solar capacity with 1,296 MWh of battery storage and a 5.7 km transmission line connecting to the national electricity grid. Construction is expected to take 24 months, with the storage system enabling solar power to be supplied during nighttime hours.
