Chec, Ecopetrol, and Baker Hughes partner to develop geothermal energy in Colombia’s Nereidas Valley

The Caldas Hydroelectric Power Plant (Chec), Ecopetrol, and Baker Hughes have partnered to develop geothermal energy in Colombia’s Nereidas Valley near Nevado del Ruiz volcano. Led by Julián López Palacio, the project aims to harness underground heat for electricity generation, enhancing the country’s energy grid. If current drilling succeeds, the project could generate up to 65 MW of power, with a 30-MW plant planned to supply energy to a city like Manizales.
