CARICOM Commissions a 400 KW Solar PV and Storage System in Guyana

CARICOM will produce solar-generated electricity soon after commissioning a 400-kilowatt solar photovoltaic power generation plant and battery power conditioning system on their compound in Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. The Japanese government funded the USD 7 million project consisting of 1,500 solar panels, servers, batteries, a carport, and space for educational/recreational activities. In the future, CARICOM expects the facility to generate more electricity than is required by the secretariat for its operation on an annual basis. The excess energy could potentially feed into the utility grid during off-peak operation periods and provide Guyana Power and Light (GPL) the extra solar-generated electricity.
