Caribbean islands taking steps to shift from diesel to solar

Projects in Antigua and Barbuda  signal a major shift from diesel to solar-based energy supply and local governments are increasing eager to attract private investment to the sector. At the V.C Bird International Airport a 3 MW sun2live solar plant was recently inaugurated and the installation of further sun2live and sun2roof power systems will generate and store energy, providing a sustainable solution to fossil fuels for the Island. Implementation of sun2go xl at hotels and resorts, such as the Beach Hotel House, prove to investors the viability of clean energy – encouraging them to adopt a similar  approach to energy as the government. The sun2go xl mobile unit has a nominal capacity of 1.4 KW, allowing to generate enough power from the sun to provide the lighting in the building and to operate all the necessary power tools during construction. Alanzo Jack, electrical engineer of PV Energy Limited says: “More and more private investors seize the opportunity to benefit from the sun as a reliable, endless and eco-friendly energy source… Not only the endeavours of the local government but also the efforts of private entrepreneurs accord Antigua and Barbuda a true pioneering role in the whole of the region.”
