Call for tenders for solar park in Guyana

Guyana’s Department of Public Information announced the government will open an international call for tenders for the construction of a 1 MW solar PV park.

The call for tenders is currently pending final approval.

The plant will be located in Lethem, right by the Brazilian border. The press release indicated that the country would invest 565 Guyanese dollars for its construction.

The project is expected to take on year to be completed, and will provide a stale source of energy to Lethem. The Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, said that within an estimated two and a half years, the town of Lethem would run on renewable energy only.

The creation of this solar park is part of Guyana’s national plan to supply its population with stable and reliable electricity by 2020.
