CAF proposes “lithium OPEC” for Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile to shape global energy transition

CAF has proposed a “lithium OPEC” among Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile, leveraging their combined control of roughly half the world’s lithium reserves to influence the global energy transition and electrification. While the bloc holds strategic advantages, structural challenges, such as infrastructure gaps, regulatory fragmentation, and differing national profiles that will shape their role in the global lithium value chain.
