Brazil issues first offshore wind licence for 24.5 MW pilot off Areia Branca

Brazil’s environmental agency IBAMA has issued the country’s first preliminary license for an offshore wind pilot project—a 24.5 MW site featuring two turbines off the coast of Areia Branca in Rio Grande do Norte. Developed by SENAI ISI‑ER, the project will deliver power via subsea cables to the nearby port island and marks Brazil’s entry into licensed offshore wind, with more than 100 additional projects under review.
