Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) has registered the country’s first application for a closed-loop pumped-storage hydropower system under its new energy storage regulations. The proposed 5.2 MW Salto Timbé do Sul project, located in Santa Catarina, will use reservoirs to store and generate electricity, supporting grid flexibility and renewable energy integration. The registration allows developer AMUR Ltda. to advance environmental licensing and other approvals ahead of formal project authorization.
