Bermuda updates solar rebate programme

Bermuda’s Solar Energy Rebate programme will be updated to provide all citizens, especially owners of lower value homes, with strong support and incentives to switch to solar power.

Walter Roban, the Minister of Transportation and Regulatory Affairs, described a progressive rebate, which would differ according to a home’s annual rental value – a value given to properties for the determination of land tax.

The rebate programme includes rebates for solar thermal installations, using solar power to directly heat water, as well as for conventional solar PV to provide electricity.

“With lending institutions having more appetite for making loans available to homeowners for the express purpose of solar technologies, we believe that this initiative will give incentive to the average consumer to to advantage of this rebate programme,” added Mr. Roban.
