Bekaert has commissioned its first solar installation in Latin America at its Proalco Malambo steel-wire manufacturing plant in Barranquilla, Colombia. The 1.29 MWp rooftop system, comprising 1,986 solar panels, is expected to generate approximately 1.87 GWh annually, covering 25% of the facility’s electricity demand and reducing CO₂ emissions by an estimated 117 tonnes per year. The company is also planning a second solar installation at its Muña plant near Bogotá.
