Barbados is moving forward with its national energy policy and resiliency plan, with an RFP for up to 60 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) set to be issued by the end of the month, according to Energy Minister Lisa Cummins. The projects will be built, owned, and operated by private developers, alongside plans to launch an onshore wind project by mid-November. These efforts support the island’s broader US$9.5 billion energy transition and investment plan, which includes initiatives like Renewstable Barbados’s 50 MW solar and hydrogen storage project.
