Barbados is staying on track for a 2018 construction timeframe of the 10 MW wind farm in Lamberts, St. Lucy, according to a speech delivered this week by managing director of Barbados Light & Power, Roger Blackman.
BL&P and Barbados Farms Limited are in the process of finalizing the terms of the agreement for the St Lucy wind farm in Barbados. The project has the support of the local council, as well as additional farmers who have expressed interest in adding wind turbines to their land.
Blackman also announced that later this year, the utility will begin a renewable energy storage pilot project, saying “as we move to more and more renewables on the network, more sun and more wind and the need to get to 100 per cent with things like sun and wind, we need to store some of it for the times when the sun and the wind aren’t present. So batteries or storage generally are necessary.”
