Argentina to finalize more PPA’s this month

Six bioenergy and small hydro projects that won the RenovAr 1 auction are due to sign their power purchase agreements (PPAs) by March 2, Energia Estrategica said.

The other 23 winning projects from that auction round have already concluded their contracts.

Energia Estrategica also reported that the government would extend by one more month, till the end of March, the deadline for completing the contracts for projects from the failed GENREN programme. About 550 MW of projects from the GENREN auctions, launched back in 2009, are expected to sign contracts but they first need to secure financing and select an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.

Under RenovAr, Argentina aims to reach 20% renewables share in power by 2020. The first auction under the programme got 123 bids for over 6.3 GW and awarded contracts to 1.1 GW of projects. Then the energy ministry launched the RenovAR 1.5 round, in which it got bids of 2.5 GW and named as winners 1.3 GW of wind and solar proposals.
