AES Andes has begun testing the 340 MW / 1,360 MWh Cristales battery energy storage system (BESS) in Chile’s Antofagasta region. The project’s current configuration includes approximately 288 MW of solar capacity and 340 MW of storage, representing a significant change from the larger solar and storage configuration originally proposed and approved in 2024.
