ACCIONA signs its first renewable energy contract under Mexico’s energy reforms

Renewable power company ACCIONA Energia will cover an annual supply of 585.7 GWh of electricity, from two wind farms in Mexico. One of the first companies to sign a PPA with Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), ACCIONA was awarded the contract after an auction held in March. The 168 MW wind farm in the state of Tamaulipas will supply the power allocated at the March auction, while a second farm, south of Reynosa, will soon begin construction. The El Cortijo wind  farm will enter into service in 2018. Miguel Ángel Alonso, director of ACCIONA Energia Mexico expects that the system “creates good prospects for the development of renewables in the country” and is proud of the framework established by the Mexican energy reform.
