Spain’s Elecnor SA said on Monday it has been awarded a $117.2m contract to build the 115 MW Santiago Solar plant in Chile.
The company has been hired for the job by the project company, owned by EDF Energies Nouvelles, which in turn is the renewables arm of French power producer EDF, and local developer Andes Mining & Energy.
The project, located north of the Chilean capital in Santiago Metropolitan Region, will be funded by a syndicate of banks led by Credit Agricole in New York, according to the announcement.
EDF EN said in December that construction of the Santiago Solar plant was getting underway as it announced the inauguration of the 146-MW Bolero solar power facility in Chile, jointly owned with Japanese partner Marubeni.
According to EDF EN’s announcement, a portion of the Santiago Solar plant’s output will be purchased by around 20 distributors under a 15-year contract. The balance will be sold on the market.
