The Caribbean Climate Innovation Center (CCIC) and the World Bank’s Entrepreneurship Programme for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC) encourage entrepreneurs in the Caribbean to access funding for projects involving energy and mobile innovations. Areas of interest include clean technologies in energy, water, agriculture, and transport; the initiative is designed to help local innovators access opportunities to mitigate the effects of and adapt to climate change. Karlene Francis, the Operations Officer at the World Bank, explained that opportunities exist “for Jamaicans and the rest of the Caribbean to utilize climate change to increase employment, economic development and sustainability”. The World Bank has launched a crowd-funding online course to train fledgling entrepreneurs in areas of energy efficiency, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, waste water management, and resource use efficiency. Beneficiaries of the CCIC Boot Camp and Accelerator will have access to additional funding and networking opportunities. Women entrepreneurs and those engaged in mobile innovations are encouraged to take advantage of this support. The CCIC is a consortium under the Scientific Research Council and the Trinidad-based Caribbean Industrial Research Institute
