The Dominican Republic continues to make progress in clean energy with existing sources and plans for new installations totaling over 400 MW. Wind, solar and biomass currently dominate the DR market with an output of 186.5 MW and plans for power purchase agreements to install another 235 MW in wind power. Deputy Minister of Energy, Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), Ernesto Vilalta, spoke with delegates from 15 countries at the Second Meeting of the Ad Hoc Group of Energy CELAC and together they validated the Energy Roadmap to Sustainability. The roadmap seeks to create a strategy for the countries of the CELAC to meet the goals of the SDGs by 2030. Objectives include universal access to energy services, to double the rate of global energy efficiency, and double the share of renewables energy in the global energy matrix.
