CARIF 2026 is offering delegates a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how coastal resilience is tested in practice, with a new Technical Site Visit to the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 16.
The visit centers on a demonstration at the Alfred C. Glassell Jr. SUSTAIN Laboratory, where researchers can recreate Category 5 hurricane conditions, with winds of up to 155 mph alongside waves and storm surge, to study how infrastructure performs under extreme coastal conditions. Delegates will also explore Rosenstiel research including ECoREEF, SEAHIVE, hybrid reefs and coral resilience, with direct discussion alongside University of Miami researchers on how engineered and nature-based approaches can move from research toward practical, scalable application across the Caribbean.
The Site Visit is available as a $150 optional add-on to CARIF registration, including round-trip transportation from The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove. Capacity is limited, with approximately 25 participants in total, and advance registration is required.
