A Cuba–Canada renewable energy initiative, the Former project, has installed 344 photovoltaic systems in rural communities across Holguín province as part of a broader plan to deploy 502 systems. The installations include 244 1 kW systems and 100 2 kW systems across 10 municipalities, significantly improving electricity access in remote areas that previously relied on limited generator-based supply. The project has also expanded into public services, adding solar water heaters to healthcare and social facilities and supporting additional applications such as water pumping, solar parks, and training infrastructure.
