Costa Rica’s state utility ICE, has moved forward with the US$245 million modernization of the 100 MW Ventanas Garita hydroelectric plant, as part of a broader infrastructure upgrade program financed by a US$200 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank. The overhaul will replace electromechanical equipment and transformers and extend the plant’s operating life by about 40 years.
