Jamaica: 33.1 MW PV plant awarded at record low price per kWh

Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation announced that Eight Rivers Energy Company (EREC) is the winner of the energy procurement auction for a 33.1 MW solar project. EREC set a record by proposing the lowest electricity price for solar power in Jamaica  – just 8.54 US cents per kWh.

“The OUR is pleased with the proposed all-in tariff of 8.54 US cents/kWh, which we believe has set the pricing bar for future renewable projects,” said OUR director Albert Gordon.
Construction of the plant will begin in July and the plant is expected to open within a year.
