Brazil’s LRCAP auctions secure 19.5 GW, leaving around 3 GW of opportunity for battery storage

Demand for Brazil’s upcoming LRCAP battery auction is estimated at nearly 3 GW, following the procurement of 19 GW in the first auction and an additional 501.3 MW from existing thermal plants in the second 2026 LRCAP round. The latter contracted four diesel and fuel oil plants for delivery starting in 2026 and 2027, and two biodiesel plants beginning in 2030, reinforcing energy security. With total system needs estimated at 23 GW, the remaining gap is expected to be met through battery storage.
