Argentinian University validates autonomous solar system for rural food refrigeration

Researchers at Argentina’s National University of the Northeast (UNNE) have developed and validated an autonomous photovoltaic system designed to provide continuous electricity for food refrigeration and basic household needs in isolated rural areas. The system combines a 910 Wp solar array, a 275 Ah battery bank, and a 2 kW MPPT controller, covering 100% of annual electricity demand and reliably powering a 160-liter refrigerator. Experimental testing confirms the prototype’s technical and economic viability, offering a sustainable and practical solution for off-grid communities in northeastern Argentina.
