The IDB Group and AFD Group will co-finance up to US$324 million to expand digital connectivity in Brazil’s Amazon through submarine fiber-optic cables and a new regional data center, reaching roughly 15 million people. The initiative, part of the Amazonia Forever program and the EU’s Global Gateway, will provide access to online education, telemedicine, e-commerce, and improved public digital services for Indigenous, quilombola, riverside communities, and students. Investments will span Maranhão and Pará, with funding split between the IDB, AFD, and state governments.
