Jamaica’s government has launched the process to find a new national power grid operator ahead of the 2027 expiration of Jamaica Public Service’s (JPS) license. The energy ministry is seeking consultants to design the transition framework, assess ownership transfer options, and make the sector attractive to investors. The IDB-financed consultancy will support the government’s plan to bring in private investors rather than repurchase JPS, which is 80% owned by Marubeni and Korea East-West Power.
