By June 2025, Puerto Rico reached 1,200 MW of rooftop solar under its net metering program, supplying over 10% of the island’s electricity consumption and generating an estimated 1,800 GWh annually. Rooftop solar capacity has grown fivefold in four years, with most systems paired with batteries that provide backup during outages and may also supply power to the grid.
