CDB reaches landmark financial close on facility for Dominica’s 10 MW geothermal project

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has reached financial close on a facility for Dominica’s 10 MW geothermal power project, led by the Geothermal Power Company of Dominica, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ormat Technologies). The project combines US$34.8 million in concessional funding (US$25.4 million from the Green Climate Fund via an IDB-GCF programme, and US$9.4 million from Canada’s SuRGE initiative) with a US$15 million loan from the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF). Construction broke ground in June 2024 in Roseau Valley. Commercial operations are being targeted for December 2025, although some sources indicate possible startup in January 2026.
