Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment and Energy has authorized 643 MW of new renewable capacity through self-generation and distributed generation projects led by private companies. The initiatives, consisting of solar and hydro plants, include 179.1 MW for distributed generation to the national market and 464.6 MW for self-generation with the option to sell surplus power. Companies now have 18 months to secure permits.
