Saona Island in the Dominican Republic becomes the first and only island in the hemisphere to use 100% renewable energy

Saona Island is powered entirely by renewable energy due to the recently completed Saona plant, making it the first and only island in the hemisphere to run on 100% renewable energy. The Saona plant, designed and commissioned by the Bayahibe Electricity Company (CEB), has a storage capacity of 5 MWh with potential for expansion based on the community’s economic and social development.
