55MW Costa Rican geothermal project to be completed by mid-year

The Las Pailas II Geothermal Project is set to integrate into the Costa Rican National Electric System (SEN) in six months time, after a final testing phase.

The plant, located in the northwest of the country, will generate sustainable electricity from 55MW of installed capacity.

Las Pailas II is the seventh plant of this type to be constructed in Costa Rica, generating electricity from volcanic steam. With the construction of this plant, the Costa Rican National Electric System is set to have the third highest installed geothermal capacity in the Americas, together with the United States and Mexico.
