Wind project starts construction in Cuba

Empresa de Construcción y Montaje, a state-owned Cuban building company, has started the construction of the 51MW La Herradura-1 wind farm.

The foundations for two of the planned 34 towers have been built in the Las Tunas province. This will be the second wind farm in the region – the first, the 50MW La Herradura-2 wind farm, is also under construction. A substation will connect both wind parks to the country’ national electricity grid.

The company has further plans for a third wind park. These plans are part of the country’s goal to source a quarter of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
