SkyPower Invests in 500 MW Utility-Scale Solar and PV Education in Panama

SkyPower, a developer and owner of utility-scale solar projects, announced plans to build 500 MW of utility-scale solar projects over the next five years. These projects represent a $1 billion investment.

According to Skypower Chief Commerical Officer, Charles Cohen, “SkyPower’s estimated US $1 billion investment is expected to create more than 10,000 total jobs in Panama, and create opportunity to export solar panels proudly made in Panama.”

In addition to these projects, Skypower will also construct a $50 million solar and environmental research center in Panama that will be dedicated to the advancement of PV technology.

In a statement made at the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York, SkyPower President and CEO Kerry Adler said,

“SkyPower invests in countries that uphold environmental sustainability and preservation while advancing their economies and industries. The future of Panama looks bright, as the leadership of Panama is clearly focused on the need for clean renewable energy and has embraced solar as a cost-effective means of addressing Panama’s energy needs today, and as a critical part of its generation mix for its bright future.”

SkyPower also announced that it will fund 250 scholarships for Panamanian students who are studying solar technology and environmental sustainability. Ten scholarships will be given each year for the next twenty-five years.
