U.S. allocates $2 million to spur investment in Caribbean energy sector

The United States Department of State spokesperson, Ms.Heather Nauert, announced that $2 million had been committed to the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative with the aim of fostering investment in the private sector.

The initiative will identify projects where U.S. investment can spur further private sector investment “throughout the Caribbean energy sector”, she said in a statement.

This announcement comes after the U.S. Deputy Secretary John Sullivan hosted a meeting on the sidelines of UN General Assembly, where U.S. representatives and CARICOM foreign ministers met to discuss a wide range of issues, including economic prosperity and energy security, and supporting emergency response and preparedness for natural disasters.
