Trinidad and Tobago receive USD 3m for renewable energy projects

IRENA has awarded USD 3million to Trinidad and Tobago for the development of its renewable energy sector.

Trinidad and Tobago successfully applied to the UAE Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund in January of this year.

Two projects first developed when the country joined IRENA are currently being finalised.

This shift towards renewables aims to lower the price of electricity for consumers and businesses, said government officials. A new renewable Energy Division in the Energy Ministry will also help the country meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement.

This financing announcement was made shortly after the government issued a call for tenders for renewable energy projects. The Energy Ministry has received submissions from 28 organisations to develop waste-to-energy schemes. More can be expected before the submission deadline on August 30.
