St. Maarten resort to build improved solar energy farm

The Maho Group, owners and operators of St. Maarten’s Sonesta Resorts, have signed an agreement to install an updated state-of-the-art solar power park.

This solar farm project will be led by China Machinery Engineering Corporation’s (CMEC) subsidiary, CMEC Dutch Caribbean. The company has built renewable energy projects around the world, and will supply the most advanced photovoltaic panels available in the market to the Sonesta Resorts. These panels will increase the generation capacity by 15 per cent compared to other PV solar projects with the same number of panels.

This updated solar power farm, to be inaugurated in June 2019, has the potential to generate up to 1.15 MW for self-consumption.

“Having partners like The Maho Group make our commitment to help the Caribbean energy sector become greener and more efficient even stronger”, said CMEC Dutch Caribbean General Manager, Wang Wei.

“We are committed to the future of sustainable and responsible tourism in St Maarten”, added President and CEO of the Maho Group, Saro Spadaro.
