The not-for-profit organisations, Casa Pueblo and Empowered by Light, have announced the successful installation of a solar PV and energy storage system in Puerto Rico.
Alongside 16kW of installed solar power, two Tesla Powerwall storage systems will supply a nursing home in La Misericordia.
This project will allow the community to replace its diesel generators, using clean energy instead.
Keila Santiago, a local employee, said: “With this solar and battery storage system, we feel safer. The nights after Hurricane Maria were worrying, as were unable to provide full medical services to our community.”
