Renewables a Solution for Post-Maria Puerto Rico

The Department of Energy of Puerto Rico has drafted a report detailing its vision for rebuilding a resilient energy system in Puerto Rico.

To prevent similar situations in the future, the Department of Energy has recommended a modernisation in the transmission and distribution infrastructure in the island and reconsider other sources of energy production.

More specifically the government has looked into renewables as a way to get converged on the island in the wake of the storms. This has become particularly important as Puerto Rico has a legal requirement to get 20 percent of electricity from clean energy by 2035. However, this number is likely to increase as the interest in solar and off grid systems post- Maria increases.
