Regulatory reform in Panama aims for 70% renewables by 2050

Panama’s power system is critical in achieving the renewable energy goals of the country. The government has outlined recommendations in a report which calls for amendments to the country’s regulation of the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). This change will have the objective to increase the use of renewable energy, including solar and wind. It will make the renewables market a much more competitive industry and will promote investment.

The policy report also recommends an examination of the current national workforce in the field of renewables, compared with projected future needs in order to help inform modifications to domestic education and training programmes.
