Puerto Rico authorities receive bids for utility grid’s concession

Puerto Rico’s Public-Private Partnerships Authority (P3A) has received proposals from five private companies bidding for the management and operation of Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority’s (Prepa), transmission and distribution system.

These requests for a public-private partnership will be evaluated to determine the best contender “to carry out the transformation and modernization of the energy system of Puerto Rico”, said a press release from Gov. Ricardo Roselló’s office.

“Our administration remains firm in its commitment to provide greater stability, reliability, and efficiency to the energy system of Puerto Rico. Today we take another step forward in the route to the transformation of our energy system,” Rosselló said.

This transaction is another step in Puerto Rico’s plan to modernise and build more resilient electricity infrastructures and networks, using clean energy. Both the governor and the legislature came together in late November, supported by a diverse group of clean energy advocates, to propose a plan calling for 100% renewables by 2050.
