Panama reaches over 500MW of solar PV in development

After the concession of three provisional license for new projects, Panama has reaches 500MW of solar PV energy in construction and development.

Panama’s National Public Services Authority has published data on the country’s solar installed capacity.

Last May, it was only at 176MW, approximately 5% of the country’s total generation. Once projects in construction or development are finalised, Panama’s installed solar capacity will increase almost threefold.

At the end of June, over fourteen licenses for solar projects were granted, and an additional eleven projects received provisional approval.

The largest project, a 150MW solar farm constructed by the local branch of the Spanish firm Avanzalia is expected to enter into commission in 2020.
