Mexico publishes report outlining potential of geothermal and other renewables

Mexico’s Secretariat of Energy has published a report laying out the future of Mexico’s renewable energy sector, which includes a section on geothermal energy.

The report, “Renewable Energy Technology Route Maps” identifies the challenges and obstacles the country faces to take full advantage of renewable energies by 2030. Mexico’s geothermal power capacity is estimated to increase to 13 217 GWh/ per year.

The country’s 2004 Energy Transition Law established the goal of 35% renewable energy generation by 2024.

“Mexico has geothermal resources which can be exploited, and the will to develop it the geothermal industry sustainably is apparent”, the report said.
